Construction Enquirer News Trio of directors plan to grow £40m turnover civils contractor

A trio of directors at specialist rail and transportation contractor BCM Construction have completed a management buyout of the £40m revenue business.

Founder Hugh McGarry, and finance director Terry Sullivan have sold their stakes to the remaining management team.

The deal also includes two associated companies – Construction Hire Solutions and Equate Design.

The MBO led by Shane O’Halloran, Stuart Jackson and Dan Wiscombe has been structured to boost the businesses, with the management team investing cash and a deferred consideration to vendors being paid out over the next three years.

O’Halloran said: “We are delighted to announce this buyout, which is the completion of a long and well-considered succession plan which has been several years in the making.”

BCM was established in 1985 and now employs 80 staff out of offices in London, Pontypridd and Cardiff.

The rail sector is a key focus area for BCM, however a diversification strategy has resulted in successful contract awards in the utilities, local authority and highways markets providing growth and a strong opportunity pipeline.

The firm was also recently included in the Government’s Crown Commercial Services framework securing two civil engineering lots in South England and Wales.
