Construction Enquirer News Peter Wilson steps down in reshuffle that sees new senior compliance role created
Building products giant Kingspan has announced the head of its insulation boards division Peter Wilson is stepping down at the end of this year.
Also a main board director, Wilson said that now was the right time to hand over to new leadership at an important time for the Insulation Boards Division.
Wilson, 64, was in charge of the insulation division since 2001, during which time it launched Kooltherm K15, a plastic foam insulation.
During the last few weeks, the Grenfell Inquiry has been scrutinising the role that several Kingspan Insulation senior managers and directors played promoting the safe use of Kooltherm K15 boards in high rise buildings even though they were known to have failed fire tests within the company.
Kooltherm K15 was one of two types of insulation used that turned out to be combustible on the Grenfell building.
Wilson, who has not given evidence, came under fire last month when it emerged he cashed in £1.6m worth of shares before the inquiry started investigating the company’s role in the Grenfell disaster.
Alan Lawlor currently chief financial officer of Kingspan’s Insulation Boards Division and Managing Director of Kingspan Insulation, Southern Europe, will replace Wilson.
Kingspan also announced that Jim Carolan has been appointed to the newly-created role Group Head of Compliance & Certification with immediate effect, reporting to the Group CEO.
Carolan will be responsible for ensuring a rigorous approach to certification, testing and product compliance across all Group divisions.
Carolan’s prior role was as operations director in Kingspan’s Insulated Panel’s Division.
